the flying dog of Morocco! |
Our decision to get a dog in Morocco was not something we ever expected we'd do. We had lost a previous dog to old age, and were not feeling the need for a replacement.
Dixie was one of the last pups of a litter of nine who had not been spoken for. The Bearded Collie kennel owner, Deana Zelinova, contacted the American Embassy community newsletter, of which I was the editor, to place an ad in the classified section. Her email contained a photo that was completely irresistible! I immediately forwarded the note to my husband, who responded in record time, "Find out when we can have her, how much, and where we should pick her up!"
It was a decision that we have never regretted. She has, without a doubt, been one of the very best dogs we've ever had! A sweet disposition, with a friendly attitude, she knows no stranger. She has a great herding instinct, and without sheep or goats to herd, she herds whatever happens to be available: squirrels, geese, birds, airplanes, boats, people. She has been dubbed the "happiest dog in the neighborhood", and we are quite certain the every-evening-pontoon-boat-cruisers that float by our house to watch Dixie in action as she charges along the shore of the lake, enjoy her entertainment almost as much as she enjoys the entertainment they provide just for coming by!
She and I are currently attending a refresher obedience class with the intention of continuing her education (and mine) with Agility Training. From the video below you'll understand why I chose agility!
It's hard to tell who is most entertained!
